Test yourself with the SAT Question of the Day from the College Board:

All of our SAT/PSAT and ACT Programs (except Practice Tests and Vocab-only programs) come with a one-year subscription to MyMaxScore, an online test preparation service.  While all Thinking Cap students will have great access to highly qualified tutors, we think MyMaxScore is a very useful resource for both the students and us.  

MyMaxScore serves a role for us as an "aggregation software" of sorts.  Every question a student completes in the MMS database is categorized on both a high level (Math, Geometry, Critical Reading, Etc) and on a very narrow level (Slope, Nouns, Solving Simultaneous Equations).  Over time, we are able to clearly see strengths and weaknesses and this allows us to quickly make decisions about the most valuable use of your study time.  Take a look through the screen images and tutorial videos below to get an idea of how the system works.

When you first log in, you'll see a great summary of how you are doing so far.

You will see:

• Days remaining until your scheduled test,
• A summary of how long you have spent studying and how you are performing in your practice,
• Your trending score compared to your goal scores, and
• Links to all of the other features you will need to get started.

You can set up practice sessions to work on specific content areas.  Once you decide what you want to practice, use the drop-down boxes to choose whether you want to practice new stuff, topics you have had trouble with, or questions you answered incorrectly the last time through.  There are currently nearly 2,000 questions in the database.  You won't run out.

There are also 3 full practice tests if you want to experience a complete test, in order.

Each question includes a detailed explanation (below the question) and links (on the right-hand side) to refresher content that help you recall the rules/theorems/etc that you might not have studied in school for several years.

You also have the opportunity to mark questions that you guessed on (so you can figure out if your guessing is helping or hurting) and mark questions for review (so you can review them with your Thinking Cap tutor).  

The Scorecard is a nice reference on your performance.  

You can track:

• Average answer time versus average correct answer time versus average time allotted on the SAT,
• Percentage and total questions correct, answered, etc,
• Trending SAT score versus Goal score, and
• How you performed on questions on which you guessed.

This report provides a summary of study materials that will help your score the most.  It includes specific content areas that you can use additional work on and also strategies that will help you work through problems you don't necessarily know right away.  

Your Thinking Cap tutor uses this report to plan your next lessons and help you prioritize your study schedule.
